Police ID men killed on MoPac

Austin police identified the two men who were killed early Tuesday in an accident on MoPac Boulevard (Loop 1) in North Austin.

Officials said Russell Roberson, 21, fell off his motorcycle after hitting the back of a Land Rover while traveling north between Allandale Road and Far West Boulevard. Brian McKernan, 45, had stopped to help, when a black Honda struck and killed both men about 2 a.m., police said.

Roberson, known as “Rusty” to friends and family, was a lifelong Austin resident and had just begun riding a motorcycle, his mother, Teresa Roberson, said.

“He had an incredible knack of being a friend,” Roberson said. “He will be missed by a lot of people.”

Police said that charges will not be filed and that the deaths were accidental.
